What to Expect from Your Consultation

The initial consultation is a candid conversation about your situation. We will:
  • Listen to the facts and identify the immediate issues;
  • Confirm jurisdiction and venue;
  • Identify the likely range of outcomes under Virginia (or Maryland) law;
  • Discuss strategy options;
  • Discuss fee structure candidly — before you decide whether to retain.
There is no obligation to retain the firm after the consultation. The conversation is privileged and confidential.

Information to Have Ready

The more we know going into the consultation, the more useful the first conversation will be. Helpful information includes:
  • The date of marriage and date of separation (if separated);
  • The jurisdiction where you and your spouse currently reside;
  • Whether there are minor children and their ages;
  • A general sense of the marital estate — income, real estate, retirement, debt;
  • Whether your spouse has retained counsel and, if so, who;
  • Any existing court orders.
Don’t worry if you don’t have all of this. We will work with whatever information you have.

Geographic Coverage

We handle contested matters in Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Arlington County, and the City of Alexandria. Uncontested divorces are available throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Selected Maryland family-law matters are also handled under separate bar admission.
